Frequently Asked Questions

How long is my appointment duration?

For Lymphoedema management
If its your initial appointment, book for an hour and a half ( 90 minutes). Initial consultation is more
about assessment
Follow up appointment, usually an hour. However, if various therapeutic interventions are required
to be incorporated in the same session depending upon individual presentations, then its
recommended to allow more than an hour. Your therapist will advise you regarding this.
For other Lymphatic and Remedial Massage Therapy ( for Neuro, Musculo skeletal and soft tissue
conditions) appointment duration is usually an hour ( 60 minutes). Extended therapeutic session are
available should you require it. Various soft tissue manual therapy techniques such as Myofascial
release, Trigger point therapy , Muscle energy Techniques , assisted muscle stretching
,Proprioceptive neuro muscular facilitation (PNF) stretching techniques , Deep tissue remedial
massage techniques are incorporated in the session as appropriately. One of our key speciality is a
combination approach were special manual lymphatic drainage techniques are combined with
appropriate soft tissue manual therapy techniques for an enhanced outcome, as required.

Do I need a referral

Although referrals are not required ,referrals can be beneficial as they contains useful information
related to your condition.

What do I need to bring to my first appointment?

Please bring contact details and any referrals from your GP , specialist or other Allied health
practitioner , any repots relating to your oedema.

Also bring any compression garments currently using or previous one if any.

What to expect in the first session?

For Lymphoedema management, the first session is more about assessing the condition to
formulate an individualised therapeutic plan. Your therapist will share knowledge about your
Oedema, provide you with lymphoedema self care strategies and tips and also a lymphatic massage.
Other therapeutic interventions such as detailed limb volume measurement, compression
bandaging, scar therapy , soft tissue therapy , Oedema taping , compression garment prescription
etc along with Manual Lymphatic Drainage are performed in in future sessions as appropriately. Your
Lymphoedema specialist therapist will guide you through the various phases of the management.

For other clients (Remedial and soft tissue therapy including Lymphatic treatments) a quick
assessment of pain, range of motion (ROM ), soft tissue and muscle tightness, posture etc are
conducted to formulate a tailor made session which suits your specific needs. The therapy is
performed in the same session. The therapist will also provide self care techniques relevant to your
condition.
