How long is my appointment duration?

For Lymphoedema management
Your initial appointment is 90 minutes long to ensure enough time to assess, prioritise and formulate your care plan.
Follow up appointments are generally one hour. However, if various therapeutic interventions are to be undertaken then it is recommended to allow more than an hour. Your therapist will advise you regarding the specifics of this.

Do I need a referral?
Although referrals are not essential, they can be beneficial as they contain useful information related to your condition.
What do I need to bring to my first appointment?

For your first appointment, please bring any referrals you may have from health practitioners including your GP and the relevant contact information. Please also bring any reports you have regarding your oedema and any compression garments used in the past or present.
To ensure adequate time for paperwork please arrive 10 minutes prior to the beginning of your appointment.

What should I expect in the first session?

For Lymphoedema/ Lipoedema management,and post surgical oedema the first session is mostly focused on assessing your condition to formulate an individualised therapeutic plan. Your therapist will carry out a session of Manual Lymphatic Drainage as appropriate and share knowledge about your Oedema and also provide you with relevant Lymphoedema selfcare strategies and tips. Other therapeutic interventions including but not limited to:
Detailed limb volume measurement,
Compression bandaging,
Scar therapy,
Soft tissue therapy,
Oedema taping,
Compression garment prescription, and
Manual Lymphatic Drainage will be performed in future sessions as recommended. Your Lymphoedema specialist therapist will guide you through the various phases of your care plan and management.

For other Lymphatic and Remedial Therapy

For Neuro, Musculoskeletal and soft tissue conditions appointment duration is generally one hour in length, although short appointments are available. Extended therapeutic sessions are available if needed. Various soft tissue manual therapy techniques such as Myofascial Release, Myofascial Release Cupping,Trigger Point Therapy, Muscle Energy Techniques, Assisted Muscle Stretching, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) Stretching Techniques, Deep Tissue Remedial Massage Techniques, Instrumental Assisted Soft Tissue Manual therapy and Kinesio taping are incorporated in the session as appropriate. One of our key specialties is a combination approach of special manual lymphatic drainage techniques and soft tissue manual therapy techniques for an enhanced outcome. Once again, your Lymphatic therapist will advise you of which techniques are best suited to your specific needs.

What if I am simply coming for remedial or soft tissue therapy?

These sessions will include a quick assessment of your pain, a review of your range of motion (ROM), soft tissue and muscle tightness, posture and so forth are conducted to formulate a tailor- made session, which suits your specific needs. The therapy is performed in one session and your therapist will also provide self care techniques related to your condition.
